SUMMARY:'Arsenic and Old Lace'
DESCRIPTION:Arsenic and Old Lace \n\n\nBy Joseph Kesselring\n\n\n\nMurder\, manners\, and mayhem \n\n\n\n\nAugust 14 – September 6\, 2026 \n\n\n\n\n\nFriday-Saturday @ 7pm\nSaturday-Sunday @ 2pm \n\n\n\n\n\nDirected by Kira Blaskovich \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbby and Martha Brewster\, two sweet\, silver-haired spinster aunts\, practice the kindest form of charity: elderberry wine laced with arsenic for lonely old gentlemen. Their fast-talking theater-critic nephew Mortimer uncovers the macabre family secret amid his whirlwind engagement. Add a brother channeling Teddy Roosevelt and a Boris Karloff-lookalike criminal\, and the farce bursts into pandemonium—as the cellar stacks up with bodies. A timeless hit\, Joseph Kesselring’s Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic dark comedy about the only thing more deadly than poison: family.

SUMMARY:'Advanced Persistent Teenagers' - A Play by Deepak Kumar
DESCRIPTION:Chalk Circle Collective presents a brand new play in an experimental workshop production to Cygnet Theatre’s Joan Performing Arts Center. “Advanced Persistent Teenagers” by Deepak Kumar (House of India at the Old Globe) follows 2 teenage hackers\, Axyz and Lapras\, who only know each other through online voice chat. When their hacker collective\, dark w0rld\, abruptly disbands\, the boys find themselves adrift. Searching for purpose—and still craving the rush—the two launch a plan that may just change the hacker world forever. This “workshop production” is a novel concept rarely seen in the landscape of professional theatre. The 2-person play will be fully staged and produced – but because this workshop process is an opportunity for playwright Deepak Kumar to revise and explore\, the actors will have new rewrites for every performance. With new script pages in hand\, our two incredible actors will navigate a different and unique version of the play each night. There will even be 2 alternate endings on the 2 weekends at the Joan so you can come back and see just how much has changed! Becks Redman\, artistic producer at the Old Globe\, directs this production starring Devyn Wade and Giancarlo Lugo. Chalk Circle Collective is the avant garde theatre company behind last year’s “The Strangers” at the Old Town theatre and the award-winning productions of “Constellations” and “The Turn of the Screw” Chalk Circle Collective on Facebook / Instagram

SUMMARY:The American Quilt: Cloth and Commerce
DESCRIPTION:From the Revolutionary Era to the present day\, quilts have served as both cherished heirlooms and silent witnesses to the evolution of American industry\, politics\, and global trade. The American Quilt: Cloth and Commerce explores how the materials\, dyes\, and techniques used in quiltmaking reflect centuries of economic shifts and technological innovation. Featuring over 40 quilts and coverlets from Bowers Museum’s permanent collection\, as well as loans from the family of famed quilter Jean Ray Laury and others\, this exhibition traces the journey of fibers like cotton\, silk\, wool\, rayon\, and polyester through two and a half centuries of American quilting. \nVisitors will encounter quilts that speak to the mass-production of domestically printed cotton fabric in the 19th century\, as well as to the ingenuity of makers during times of scarcity\, such as Depression-era scrap quilts and wartime cotton regulations. Highlights include a rare 1776 whole-cloth wool quilt\, an early Bethlehem Star quilt with chintz appliqué\, a quilt made of handkerchiefs commemorating the American centennial in 1876\, and a 1975 pictorial quilt celebrating scenes of California life. \nThrough these textiles\, period ephemera\, and multimedia interactives\, The American Quilt invites reflection on the intimate relationship between cloth and community\, and how trade policies shape the availability and aesthetics of everyday materials. Whether hand-stitched by anonymous or known makers\, each quilt offers a tactile record of American life\, labor\, and legacy. \nExhibit Credit:  \nThe American Quilt: Cloth and Commerce is organized by Bowers Museum and curated by Tara Miller. The exhibition is supported by Flying Geese Quilters Guild and Repiecers – Southern California Study Group
