DESCRIPTION:Best Comedy Show of the Year | ★★★★★ | The Guardian\n#1 Comedy Show in London | ★★★★★ | Time Out\nBest Comedy of the Year | ★★★★★ | Telegraph \nhahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahaha hihihi hahahahahahahaha hoho hahahhahahaha hehe hahahahahahahahahaha. That’s the blurb. \nJulia Masli’s award-winning solo phenomenon ha ha ha ha ha ha ha arrives in San Diego for two weeks only following a string of critically acclaimed runs at The Public Theatre\, Yale Repertory Theatre\, Pasadena Playhouse\, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company\, Soho Playhouse in New York City\, Melbourne International Comedy Festival\, London’s Soho Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. \nPart clowning\, part surreal social experiment\, part connection-forging alchemy\, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha transforms La Jolla Playhouse’s Forum Theatre into a playground of spontaneity\, outlandish hilarity\, and surprising poignancy\, all shaped in real time by the audience. Anarchic. Side-splitting. Unexpectedly tender. \nThe Guardian says ha ha ha ha ha ha ha is “a great unexpected carnival of mutual care\, ring-led with a featherlight touch by a clown whose mischief is matched only by her compassion.” \nUtterly unlike anything else onstage\, this is a completely different experience every night that keeps audiences coming back again and again. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha is a quintessential WOW experience – improvised heavily and based on audience participation.

SUMMARY:Chicano Block Party
DESCRIPTION:The Chicano Block Party is an annual celebration of Chicano art\, culture\, and community presented by the California Center for the Arts Museum in honor of Chicano Heritage Month in California. Inspired by the exhibitions and artists featured at the Museum\, the event brings together artists\, musicians\, lowrider clubs\, community organizations\, and visitors for a day of art\, music\, food\, and cultural programming. \nFirst launched in 2025 in conjunction with XICANA! San Diego\, the Chicano Block Party continues a growing Museum tradition of celebrating the artists\, histories\, and communities that shape the cultural landscape of Southern California and the Californias. \nThis year’s event is presented in conjunction with Amoxtlis\, José Hugo Sánchez’s immersive exhibition of monumental woodblock prints\, sculpture\, animation\, and mural-making. The word “block” carries multiple meanings throughout the event: the city block as a place of gathering\, the carved woodblock as the foundation of Sánchez’s artistic practice\, and the important role printmaking has played in the development of Chicano art and visual culture. Throughout the twentieth century\, artists have used printmaking to share stories\, circulate ideas\, advocate for social change\, and make art accessible within their communities. The Chicano Block Party honors this legacy by bringing together artists\, makers\, and organizations whose work continues to build upon these traditions today. \nThroughout the day\, visitors can explore a lowrider car show organized in collaboration with Lady Lowriders Car Club\, an artist market featuring local printmakers\, artisans\, and makers\, live music and performances\, artist demonstrations\, workshops\, and activities presented in collaboration with community organizations from across the region. Inside the Museum\, José Hugo Sánchez will create a woodblock-printed mural live in the gallery alongside his work in Amoxtlis\, offering visitors a unique opportunity to observe his artistic process in real time. \nAdmission to the Museum and all Chicano Block Party activities are free. \n\nEvent Highlights \nLowrider Car Show \nPresented in collaboration with Lady Lowriders Car Club\, the car show celebrates the craftsmanship\, creativity\, and cultural traditions of lowrider culture. \nArt Market & Printmaking Fair \nBrowse original artwork\, prints\, zines\, books\, apparel\, and handmade goods from local artists\, publishers\, and independent vendors. The Museum Sculpture Courtyard will also feature live printmaking demonstrations and hands-on activities organized in collaboration with the San Diego Printmaking Society. \nLive Music & DJs \nEnjoy music throughout the day from local DJs and performers across the campus. \nArtist Workshops & Demonstrations \nParticipate in hands-on activities and learn directly from artists\, printmakers\, and community organizations. \nLive Mural by José Hugo Sánchez \nVisit the Museum galleries to watch José Hugo Sánchez create a new mural throughout the day as part of his exhibition Amoxtlis. \nPop-Up Installations \nDiscover temporary artworks and creative interventions presented throughout the campus by invited artists and community collaborators.

SUMMARY:The American Quilt: Cloth and Commerce
DESCRIPTION:From the Revolutionary Era to the present day\, quilts have served as both cherished heirlooms and silent witnesses to the evolution of American industry\, politics\, and global trade. The American Quilt: Cloth and Commerce explores how the materials\, dyes\, and techniques used in quiltmaking reflect centuries of economic shifts and technological innovation. Featuring over 40 quilts and coverlets from Bowers Museum’s permanent collection\, as well as loans from the family of famed quilter Jean Ray Laury and others\, this exhibition traces the journey of fibers like cotton\, silk\, wool\, rayon\, and polyester through two and a half centuries of American quilting. \nVisitors will encounter quilts that speak to the mass-production of domestically printed cotton fabric in the 19th century\, as well as to the ingenuity of makers during times of scarcity\, such as Depression-era scrap quilts and wartime cotton regulations. Highlights include a rare 1776 whole-cloth wool quilt\, an early Bethlehem Star quilt with chintz appliqué\, a quilt made of handkerchiefs commemorating the American centennial in 1876\, and a 1975 pictorial quilt celebrating scenes of California life. \nThrough these textiles\, period ephemera\, and multimedia interactives\, The American Quilt invites reflection on the intimate relationship between cloth and community\, and how trade policies shape the availability and aesthetics of everyday materials. Whether hand-stitched by anonymous or known makers\, each quilt offers a tactile record of American life\, labor\, and legacy. \nExhibit Credit:  \nThe American Quilt: Cloth and Commerce is organized by Bowers Museum and curated by Tara Miller. The exhibition is supported by Flying Geese Quilters Guild and Repiecers – Southern California Study Group

SUMMARY:Destiny Is a Rose: The Eileen Harris Norton Collection
DESCRIPTION:Renowned for her generosity to artists and institutions\, Eileen Harris Norton has built an inspiring art collection and forged a philanthropic legacy by focusing upon the work of women artists\, as well as artists of color and of her native California. Marking fifty years since Harris Norton made her first acquisition—a print purchased in 1976 directly from Los Angeles artist and African American arts advocate Ruth Waddy—‘Destiny Is a Rose’ will present more than 80 works from Harris Norton’s holdings in an exhibition conceived to celebrate the connoisseurship and commitment to social justice and learning that she embodies. \nTaking its title from a 1990 painting by Kerry James Marshall\, ‘Destiny Is a Rose’ features paintings\, sculptures and works on paper by Mark Bradford\, Felix Gonzalez-Torres\, David Hammons\, Glenn Ligon\, Marshall\, Patrick Martinez\, Beatriz Milhazes\, Michael Norton\, Catherine Opie\, Yoshitomo Nara\, Senga Nengudi\, Lorraine O’Grady\, Betye Saar\, Amy Sherald\, Lorna Simpson\, Bob Thompson\, Kara Walker and Carrie Mae Weems\, among many others. In conjunction with the exhibition\, Hauser & Wirth Publishers will release a fully illustrated catalogue with texts by Dr. Kellie Jones and exhibition curator Ingrid Schaffner.
