San Diego Underground Film Festival
SDUFF started in 2015 with a 12-hour marathon of movies held at commercial multiplex cinema,
and all we had was a dusty, old iMac, a hard drive, and a dream. It wasn’t a dream then, we
weren’t thinking about “community impact” or “surviving long enough to get nostalgic about
it”—we just thought, we’d screen some cool flicks. And somehow, here we are—Still showing
cool flicks. And now that brings us up to SDUFF 10—the first time we’ve ever received actual grant funding!
Big thanks to the State of California and the City of San Diego for recognizing what we’ve been
doing all along: bringing this city bold, bizarre, boundary-pushing experimental films, expanded
cinema, and live performances. This year’s program includes works that have premiered at
Cannes Critics’ Week, TIFF, and IFFR, alongside films that are making their debut right here, this
weekend. We’ve got noise sets, we’ve got light projections, we’ve got handmade celluloid
dreams and digital experiments.
